The History of Ceylon Tea
Step into the misty highlands of Sri Lanka, once Ceylon, where one of the world’s finest teas was born. In the mid nineteenth century, Scottish planter James Taylor planted the first tea bushes, beginning a legacy that would soon reach beyond the island.
When a blight brought Sri Lanka’s coffee industry to an end, tea took its place, flourishing in rich soil, tropical climate, and high altitudes. By the late nineteenth century, Ceylon tea had gained global recognition for its aroma, golden colour, and distinctive character.
Today, Ceylon tea is more than a beverage. It represents generations of craftsmanship and pride, carefully cultivated from mountain to cup.
